Real. Inspired. Beautiful. Yes — even the son who rolled his eyes when you brought it up.
Here’s something I tell moms all the time: senior guys want cool photos too. They just won’t always admit it — which is exactly why I built a senior guy session that works differently than a typical senior shoot.
Senior photography has been built almost entirely around girls for so long that guys get treated like an afterthought — the same poses, the same setups, just slightly adjusted. I built my sessions differently, specifically for guys, because I think they’re one of the most underserved clients in this industry.
The referral that says it all
Most of my guy clients come from one line, passed friend to friend: “Angela will make you look awesome.”
That’s the whole pitch. No mention of poses, no mention of backdrops — just one guy telling another it’s worth doing. If your son has a friend who’s already been through a session with me, there’s a good chance that’s exactly how you ended up here.

What a Senior Guy Session Actually Feels Like
It’s not just tolerable — most guys end up having a good time. We joke around between shots, I let him have some say in what we do next, and the whole thing moves fast enough that boredom never really sets in.
No forced posing. He won’t be standing stiff with his arms crossed while I tell him to relax. We work in flow — a series of natural movements that keep him moving instead of frozen in one awkward stance long enough to think about it.
Real locations, not just a backdrop. Whether it’s an industrial pocket of downtown Fort Worth, a field at golden hour, or somewhere that connects to something he’s actually into — the location does some of the work so he doesn’t have to perform.
Direction the whole time. I’m not just standing behind a camera hoping something good happens. I’m telling him where to look, what to do with his hands, when to move. He doesn’t have to know what he’s doing — that’s my job.
The back-of-camera moment. This is the part that changes everything. He sees the photo and goes, “wow, I look pretty cool!” That reaction happens with guys just as often as anyone else — and it’s usually the moment the reluctance disappears.

Planning is the product
Every senior guy session starts with planning, not just showing up and hoping for the best. For your son, that means a real conversation about what he’s actually into before we ever choose a location or an outfit — not a generic guy-shaped template pulled off the shelf.
This is one of the reasons I do the work I do: most senior photographers treat guy sessions as an afterthought. I don’t. It’s built from the ground up around who he actually is.
What he might be thinking (even if he won’t say it)
“I don’t want to look awkward.” Not if the session is built around him instead of borrowed from someone else’s shot list. That’s the entire point of planning first.
“I don’t know how to pose.” He’s not supposed to. Flow posing means I guide the movement — he just shows up.
“Is this actually built for guys, or just a girls’ session with the flowers swapped out?” It’s built for guys. Full stop. That’s the whole reason this approach exists.
What you get out of it
You get the photo you actually want hanging on the wall — the one that matches what you pictured, without a fight to get there. He gets a session that didn’t feel like homework. By the end, most moms tell me it went easier than they expected, and most sons tell their friends it wasn’t as bad as they thought.
